APFFEL PARK

APFFEL PARK PAVILION

NEW BUILD
PUBLIC
COMPLETED 2016

Easterwood Architects Studio acted as Architect of Record for the East Beach Apffel Park Pavilion, rebuilt after destruction by Hurricane Ike. The $1.6 million structure was funded by FEMA, and required permitting with the General Land Office due to the sensitive location. The public facility, notable for it's resilient design to withstand storm impacts, uses 40' deep concrete pilings and solid 4" thick roof decking. The pavilion acts as open air respite for beach goers, providing restrooms, showers, a boardwalk with vendors, a concert stage, and on-site office space for Park Board and Lifeguard staff. Additionally, Easterwood Architects Studio provided Contract and Construction Administration on the project, and has received contracts for additional amenities at the project site.
